The Encirclement of a Rogue State Has Begun
The Encirclement has begun. Encirclement is the policy of singling out a nation that has become a major international problem. The US has been a Rogue State for years.
William Blum author/historian and former member of the US State Department titled one of his books, Rogue State. Experts have predicted that the US bombing of Iraq back in 1991 would eventually lead to the encirclement of the US. Encirclement is comparable to shunning - the shunning of a nation.
Chalmers Johnson reports that the US has 700+ bases in 130 foreign countries. Most of these bases were granted "permission" by the leaders of the sovereign nations to locate within their borders. Dirty deals were worked out with the foreign leaders, usually at the expense of the native population. When backroom diplomacy fails, bullying and bribery usually succeed.
The case of Diego Garcia is different. It is even more damning. The US, with the collusion of Great Britain, emptied the island of the people who had lived there for generations.
The US has never paid fair compensation to the Chaggosian people who have been locked in a legal battle for justice for years. The expulsion of the native population by the US was an obvious case of genocide.
The people who were living on Diego Garcia were forcibly expelled by the US military. When they refused to leave, US personnel killed the pets of the native population. The message was clear - either leave or you will be the next in the gun sights. (see here)
The message has been heard around the world - what the US wants, the US gets. It has just been a matter of time before the victims of US expansionism would begin to fight back. The most recent hero to stand against the US is Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.
"NAPLES (Reuters) - Ecuador's leftist President Rafael Correa said Washington must let him open a military base in Miami if the United States wants to keep using an air base on Ecuador's Pacific coast.
Correa has refused to renew Washington's lease on the Manta air base, set to expire in 2009. U.S. officials say it is vital for counter-narcotics surveillance operations on Pacific drug-running routes.
"We'll renew the base on one condition: that they let us put a base in Miami -- an Ecuadorean base," Correa said in an interview during a trip to Italy.
"If there's no problem having foreign soldiers on a country's soil, surely they'll let us have an Ecuadorean base in the United States."
 Rosemarie Jackowski is an advocacy journalist living in the USA. She was arrested, tried, and convicted for her participation in a peaceful protest of the war. The conviction was appealed and overturned in the State Supreme Court. The government then announced plans to retry the case. Finally, after years of legal proceedings, all charges were dropped. Demons.
Friends criticize, and they do it for what they perceive are for the best reasons, I have gently asked the redneck on various threads basically, what do you think the US thinks of you?
I have lived in a number of countries, and sadly I find US citizens treat the rest of us as lesser beings, look this is not universal, to paint all with the same brush is wrong and arrogant.
I made a point that US forces in Britain do not have to answer to British justes when breaking civil law, why not! I know this applies in other countries.
The US is not populated with demons, the real demon is the US administration, and their propaganda, and spin can demonize the population. My definition of demonic,
is total lack of balance, me,me,me,I want,I want.
Every one knows that what the US wants it gets, to hell with the consequences. When a US citizen thinks that is right and proper, that person has stopped thinking for themselves, (I might add this applies to any person of any nation). Where is the compassion, and empathy? Don\'t people have right to live in their ancestral land? (Australians and Brits should ponder that too.)
I once said to a wonderful Indian lady,
"you know I prefer to be counted among the untouchables", she said, "me too Mike"!She was not of that cast, but understood where I was coming from.

Just about the time I think this country can't do anything worse more of this stuff surfaces. AND, they wonder why we are disliked so much around the world. We have become the opposite of what our founding fathers wanted for us. We have changed into the very countries that people fled. Now Bush is picking a fight with Cuba with veiled threats against the military should Castro die. What are we going to do, remove all the Cubans and build a huge military base there with more secret prisons.? I don't know what it is going to take but someone needs to take back control from the corporations, the greedy politicians and the Pentagon. Our military is being misused by these powermongers.

Vote.
How does one vote? Is a paradox, I suppose in the US some vote by not voting feeling a sense of helplessness, looking at the choice of Tweedledee, and Tweedledum.
There is an election coming up in Australia, Howard's mob are Bushites for sure and Labour lacks guts, they should have stood firm over the so called babies overboard illusion, but they allowed themselves to be led around by the nose by the Coalition. The point is that Labour is the least worst of the two parties.
But we have one saving grace, the upper house can be controlled by the minor parties, so people like the Greens, can lean on the Government, and theres no neo-dictator to veto the outcome of government.
Maybe the Senate in the US
needs a group of trouble makers.

greenartist...good comment. I agree with everything you say except, I believe that the military must be held accountable. The military is part of the war machine. It is a big part of the military/industrial complex. Anyone who supports the military, supports war.

I don't think that would be the case. I believe that the dems would have killed just as many Iraqis - only their methods would be different.
