Open Letter to CNN and Glenn Beck
Dear Sirs,
CNN and Glenn Beck recently aired an inflammatory and misleading piece comparing Ron Paul supporters to terrorists. Mr. Beck’s irresponsible association has already led to impassioned responses from the large, peaceful and growing Ron Paul community, including a call to boycott CNN’s sponsors, and an eloquent response from a former US Marine.
I was heartened by the Marine’s response. I fully support and encourage the boycott efforts. With this letter, I am also urging everyone within the Ron Paul community to write directly to CNN, requesting that your network and Glenn Beck issue a retraction, clarification and an apologyto Ron Paul and the peaceful Ron Paul community for your wrongful and damaging characterization.
On November 5th, nearly 40,000 hard working Americans donated an average of $98 to Ron Paul’s campaign for president, resulting in one of the biggest one-day online political fundraising events ever. We did it because we are tired of mainstream networks such as yours ignoring us. We did it with the intention of making a news splash so large that you could no longer pretend we do not exist. Our efforts succeeded beyond our wildest expectations, but Mr. Beck’s recent piece has revealed your true colors.
You did something shameful. You chose to portray 40,000 upstanding Americans as terrorists. I find it tragically ironic that Glenn Beck chose a segment called, “A Nation Divided” to compare the peaceful actions of fellow American citizens to terrorists. Mr. Beck’s actions only contribute to the division in this country. Calling this large group of peaceful Americans terrorists is an absolute disgrace, especially in a post-911 America when the Military Commissions Act allows the president, at his sole discretion, to name any American an “enemy combatant.” Your network and Glenn Beck may think it is funny to play fast and loose with this kind of language, but I take this very, very seriously. Nothing could be more divisive than to call fellow law-abiding Americans “terrorists.” Is this how far your network has sunk in its desperate grab for ratings? Shame on you. Shame on you and your editors, for selling out the foundations of our country so readily and so cheaply.
In his piece Mr. Beck erroneously stated that Dr. Paul’s November 5th fundraising was done “to commemorate Guy Fawkes.” What is your source for this statement? This statement is factually incorrect, and I hereby request that you produce your source, or retract it. With this single incorrect fact, Beck goes on to spin an entire piece that only amplifies and distorts his disinformation. Later in the piece, CNN’s guest, David Horowitz, speaking of Ron Paul, says: “I think it is very significant that he chose Guy Fawkes as an image.” This so clearly misinformed that it would be laughable if not for its seriousness. Is it your network's standing policy to allow such woefully misinformed guests on all of your “news” shows? How can you expect informed citizens to believe any of your future program guests if you allow such egregious errors go unchecked and uncorrected? Ron Paul and his official campaign had nothing to do with the organization of this day, so it is impossible that Ron Paul was the one to “choose Guy Fawkes as an image.” Please do not assume that all Americans are complete idiots, nor that we will stand by passively as you broadcast such lies.
Your poorly researched, factually incorrect, sensationalist opinion is exactly what is dividing America and driving citizens from networks such as yours to the unimpeachable honesty and integrity exemplified by Dr. Ron Paul and his peaceful campaign for president. I hereby request that you issue a retraction, clarification and apology to Dr. Paul and his grassroots supporters. Without it, your network will continue its accelerating slide towards the realm of complete irrelevance in the minds of informed Americans.

Glenn Beck is a pretty good example of the things that are so very wrong with our country today. Honesty and humility clearly mean nothing to this man. He seems to represent the worst of the worst in American culture, juxtaposed against Dr. Ron Paul, who represents the awesome potential the American spirit has. That Paul does it in such a peaceful and humble manner is amazing to me. I suppose we should feel sorry for Beck, but I'm just not as forgiving as Dr. Paul is.

As a senior citizen supporter of Dr. Paul, I was almost driven to having a stroke (my wrist monitor could not register) when Beck insinuated that I was a terrorist. No apology in the world can ever repair this insult to my patriotism.

Because of Glenn Beck's slanderous and naive remarks re: Ron Paul supporters, I have notified Ameritrade that I am transferring my account, sent Walgreen's a letter letting them know that I will no longer do business with them, and will not renew my Verizon Wireless contract when it expires in December. Unfortunately, the only things that matter to media-types such as Glenn Beck are ratings and advertising dollars. I will no longer watch/listen to Glenn Beck nor will I support his advertisers and CNN.

I think many people have not realized the ramifications of Mr. Beck\'s out-landish statement. I am a senior citizen and have operated a day-care for 16 years. Ron paul signs are all over my property. People are finally waking up...
I think what's got them worried is that so many of Ron Paul supporters that vote is that many of us grew up in the 60's and 70's. We remember the wonder years, the Kennedy assasination, Martin Luther King's march on Washinton, sit-ins, the Kent State massacre, Vietnam, Woodstock, and turn on-tune in-drop out. We are the voters now and our children. We don't automatically trust the government and main stream media. The internet has changed everything and msn is losing it's grip on propaganda. My 20 year old son and all his age group grew up on the internet, not TV. There is an urgent sense on both sides that it's now or never. I pray every day that the Lord and Lady will send a flock of angels to protect Ron Paul because we remember what happens to people who rattle the status quo. I believe the second American Revolution has begun. Long live the rEVOLution!!

I have listened to you for more than a year, and for the most part, I’ve been in agreement with your positions regarding the Constitution, Our Borders, "The Mainstream Media", etc. I've drawn the line however after viewing your interview with David Horowitz. It was pure, unadulterated "Bull Crap"!
I am not a spammer, ronbot, or terrorist. I pay my taxes, I support our troops at home and abroad. I love my children, I love animals, I love my country, I love my community, I love my home.
I'm educated, I'm a thinker, I'm a thinker enough to see through the fear. The fear that you might possibly loose your job as a "rodeo clown" if you were to even mention a whiff of support for one of the most courageous and truthful men running for president that any of us can remember. I see through the fear that your conscience might have been sold to the highest bidder.
I'm a person who is broken hearted having witnessed the past seven years of lies, incompetence, arrogance, secrecy, and deceit. I am one who is no longer buying your brand. You talk a pretty good game and come across as being so informed. One who speaks up for the values that once made America a truly shining example to the world. One who speaks of the incredible potentials we all have as human beings. Bravo, but it's not funny anymore. I hear ringing tones of double speak.

I'm one of many who've come to Ron's message having voted as a Democrat in the past. I find myself in good company with fellow Republicans, Independents, Libertarians and others who won't stomach any more dog and pony shows from the bar coded, cookie cutter, purchased at the point of sale candidates or elected officials. Personally I'll be damned to support any candidate on either side of the isle, who all think tank at the same country club. I won't throw my vote away ever again.
And where is your conscience Glenn? Could it have been offered in trade for a seat at the table of the washed?

Sadly, Intimidation works. Especially with cowards like Glen Beck. It may have been the thing that got Glen Beck to treat Ron Paul civilly. I'm not justifying it. But it is a fact. AIPAC uses soft intimidation all the time.
