Response to a Nader Supporter A friend and a Nader supporter writes: I am disturbed to find you reserve your "greatest scorn" for me because of my support for Ralph Nader. Dear Friend, I regret that you took my letter so personally. I really did not anticipate your position on Nader. Had I done so, I might have been tempted to modify my rhetoric some. Of course, as a Buddhist, I am not entitled to scorn any person, only behaviors. In today's charged political environment, such nuance often takes too long to explain and most do not grasp the subtleties. In this Buddhist sense I support all sentient beings: our President, our soldiers who commit war crimes and atrocities as well as terrorists who destroy innocent life. What I condemn is the War and the behavior. This argument is so far beyond normal human comprehension that I rarely even try to advance it. Since you are probably the last person I expected to take me to task on this, I think I owe you an explanation of my intentions in writing the piece. Let me say first, that I have almost never heard Ralph Nader say anything that I disagree with. One of my greatest regrets was that I did not support and campaign for him in the last two elections. As I have said endlessly, I am convinced that both Al Gore and John Kerry won the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 respectively. Why they and the Democratic Party did not have the courage to contest the stealing of their presidency (then or now) is one of the great mysteries of our time. Nine months ago, I was asked to be a Missouri Progressive/Green Party delegate. I wholeheartedly agreed because I felt that the Democrats had clearly defied the mandate of the last election to end the war. I thought that this was perhaps the best time in our history in which to mount a Third Party contest for the presidency. I waited and waited. I watched Dennis Kucinich's humiliation by the Party and the press. I waited for Nader to speak up while he stood resolutely on the sidelines, hands in pockets. No one, prophet, savior or fool, came forth to take up the Third Party banner and say to the electorate all those things that desperately needed to be said. Finally, at the last possible minute, after the positions of the electorate and the candidates were solidified, after there was no longer any hope of an alternate Third Party candidate having any positive impact on the election, after it was even too late to effect the platforms of either Party - Nader announced his candidacy. I personally think that the man is either mad, a megalomaniac or both. It is impossible to express to you what a disservice he is doing both for the cause of populist/progressive politics and for democracy in this country. I came down so harshly at the end of my diatribe precisely to try to dissuade people (like you?) from being tempted to support him. Support for Nader can only result in the election of a Republican president in November. Do you really want that? I don't care if that same argument was used in 2000 and 2004. It was probably not a valid argument then (especially by 20/20 hindsight) since both Democratic candidates it turns out were not interested in serving. This time I think it is a valid argument. Obama, the Democrats, and the voters, I hope this time ,will not settle for massive vote fraud, a Supreme Court appointment for McCain, or a Diebold computer "glitch". I support virtually every position Nader advocates. I have made my position pretty clear on my reservations concerning Barack Obama. I also made it abundantly clear that one cannot have any inflated expectation for the Democratic Party in the event that they can overcome their longstanding tradition of resting defeat from the jaws of victory. All we can have the slimmest hope for this time, in the event of a Democratic victory, is a very precarious chance of turning back the erosion of our civil rights. That is all. To that end a vote for Nader can only be a vote for John McCain and our further enslavement. I would be delighted if you could explain it to me any other way. I am so tired of leftist, Libertarian, Progressive Children's Crusades in politics in this country. I have come to truly scorn the inspired people who stand on principle while the whole process turns to s**t around them. Our democracy is probably lost anyway no matter who you vote for. All I am arguing for here is a last strategic stand - quite apart from noble principles. If Obama is elected (and I do plan on working on his campaign after Denver) I have every intention of fighting him with even more passion than I had in opposing Bush. It's just that I hope I will be able to fight him as a relatively free citizen standing in a storm-trooper free street as opposed to scratching my obscenities against president McCain with bloody fingers on the walls of my prison cell. Nothing less than this is at stake this time and that is the way I see it. I will scorn any vote for Nader as vehemently as I would a vote for McCain. I know I said this last time, but this may well be the most important election in our history. It will either retard the Republican tyranny or it will put an end to us all. The Democrats must not only win this time, they must win overwhelmingly, both in the presidency and also in the congress. I cannot accept anything that threatens to diminish this victory in any way regardless the motives no matter how senselessly idealistic or noble. Peace (not of the grave but the peace that comes from the struggle to overcome darkness with light!) Bob Boldt ----------------------------------- Bob Wrote (excerpt): I do reserve my greatest scorn however for the supporters of Ron Paul and Ralph Nader. Setting aside Ron Paul's Libertarian clinical insanity on matters domestic and addressing strictly the strategic issues of the effect support for these two candidates will have on the election after Denver and Minneapolis-St. Paul - support for these two men will only guarantee the continuance of a Republican tyranny in this country. Hopefully we will have heard the last of Ron Paul after the Republican Convention. But we still will have to try to bitch-slap some sense into a megalomaniacal Ralph Nader.

1. 02-03-2008 12:00 Ralph Nader Ralph, More power to your ideas. Maybe Michael Bloomberg will help you out. Keep working to end this insane war and bring our people home. You've been out there making speeches, doing interviews and writing articles and have written at least three books in the last 6 years. And you've been writing weekly commentary on the things that really matter, at http://www.nader.org .The question is where has the Press been on these important matters you discuss? where have the "Talking Heads" been on corporate crime and the profiteers of this war? The population is too busy being entertained and watching Sporting events to get involved, they take the EASY route and don't bother to think, settling instead for snippets and quick slogans. Knowing what's going on in a Corporate controlled State takes WORK. Thank you Ralph, for all the good things you've done to protect the PEOPLE of this Country. Amazing how quickly they forget, or perhaps they just don't know. Almost everyone's lives, or that of friends and relatives of theirs, have been improved and made safer because of you, Some wouldn't be alive today, if not for Ralph Nader! Their minds have been intentionly bombarded with with Corporate propaganda and the Democrat Party scapegoating machine. Obama and Clinton, and that phoney Terry McAuliffe should be ashamed of their comments regarding you. They continue the DNC scapcoating myth. thank you for your great and continued service to your fellow Countrymen. America will never ever be able to repay you. More power to your ideas. http://www.votenader.org....All the rest of you out there, buckle-up! .... Guest 2. 02-03-2008 18:49 Ditto Seb Continueing to tryto hold up the democratic party as salvation only shows how uninformed peopole have got to be to dire straits of saving our country. Obama and Clinton are teh final insult to my intelegence and at how desperate and sheepish the american public (esp. youth), are in this country. If there is any chance to make a honest living out of capitalism and destroy the new world order it would have to be with Nader. Other wise the only true salvation will and can only come from the revival of a true left movement for the working class of not just the U.S. but the world. The major world bankers and their political hold has been digging its heals in ever since the Marxist revolution, and done its best to corrupt it achievements at every turn. The World Bank and IF with their policies are raping the world now as I write this and continue to do so to the rest of the upper crusts of the free world in attempt to take the final blows. When a canidate uses the the words defend our military or national interests overseas, please learn what that means exactly. Obama and Clinton and McCain are no differant and only differ in how they will do it in its finer points, but World Domination of the Nato countries is the end game, and at the expense of the working people and a lowering even further of our standards of living. This will be done under the guise of spreading democracy under the guise of protecting democracy; and oh, you may have to give up a few of the freedoms you may have become accustomed to. We simply have to do this is we are going to suppress the muslim extremism to promote the moderate muslim world who ... will cow tow to U.S. and allies control of their oil with our international oil companies. Its just simply the only way they, (please find out who they are?) can protect you and control the markets in China, India and Pakistan or any other rising 3rd world country of color. Oh and excuse capitalism if we rape the enviroment and kill millions of the innocent by standers in those countries that have oil and gas while we do this. TRUST US its on our paper money in plain english. IN GOD WE TRUST all others pay cash and pay dearly with cash and loss of trade, don\'t worry this is why we have subsidies to get you by and keep you enslaved to our other corperations. You see its not even about favoring the international bank of China or Asia or Russia. Because it is not about them either, its about the guy working inthe rice paddy or the midweset farmer being lied to to grow corn for ethenal that helps to create food shortages, and their sons and daughters who are being tricked into joining the military to go fight theses insane insurgents. for another part of the big lie. Nader well he embraces capitalism under the pretext he can make it have a responsible face to the working man. He has probably entered the race after seeing how they have again gotten rid of the props of the so called left part of the Democratic party and left ous again with teh evil left overs of thos who are supposed in the middlers who are for change, really????? Gosh if they will let tehm elect a black man theymustr still have free elections maybe america can save us from our own leaders who keep following Bush and Co. New World Order knows not political lines, only lines leading to oil control lines and military industrial complex, and it is complex, control lines. This is what U.S. interests over seas and around the world are code words for and to those who hold the purse strings and can show me the money in black gold. We still need other 3rd party canidates running, but Nader coulds slow them down and save more muslems lives to stop the genocide, if tehy have not wiped them out by NOV. This is Negropontes forte in the Sandinista's. Now he is in contro of Bagdad. Her and Kessingers reign of terror on Central and South America. Guest 3. 08-03-2008 20:56 Ditto Seb No one is defending the pathetic Democratic party here. I have to privately admit that the Democrats have probably already committed suicide without Nader’s help. There is no way to save anyone by voting Nader. I agree he is (was?) an honorable man. If you Children’s Crusaders do anything other than supporting a Democratic Party candidate at this eleventh hour it will be the equivalent of voting for McCain/Bush/Cheney. I suppose you want that. Why don’t you have the courage of your convictions and volunteer to work directly for the RNC while you are at it? What do you bet McCain makes Cheney his running mate? It could happen. A Democratic government (hopefully Obama) may give us a chance to organize a grass roots alternative, if that remains possible. Under a continuing Repugnant administration like McCain/Cheney, anyone trying to organize a grass roots campaign for social justice, labor unions, environmental advocacy and the like will be in jail. You can count on it. I’ll be one of the first behind bars! It is already happening under Bush and will continue full force under his heir apparent, McCain. At least this will be less likely to happen under an Obama presidency. My suggestion is only at best a desperate last gasp, stop gap move. And Sjcolorwing, please get yourself a spell check! You New World Order conspiracy types are so used to talking only to yourselves you don’t even have the courtesy to others to check your copy. Your rant is hard enough to make sense of even without all the errors. Registered 4. 09-03-2008 07:20 Umbala! I have been watching the run up to the presidential elections in the USA. And can understand the desperation some have to get rid of the republicans power. Looking at the umbala, (something to do with bulls), being spouted, would be funny if it was coming out of a tin pot regime, but the US is arguably the biggest imperial nation in recorded history, thus what happens in the US affects the whole world, especially her friends. A good dumping might change the direction the republicans are are going , but what I observe, looking from planet OZ, is there really enough difference ? How can one condemn a people who are programmed from birth to lack compassion for others, to look at foreigners as untouchables, and to regard ' Americans ', as some kind of God blessed race, what chance does such a race have? I read recently that nominally 60% of the US public considered water boarding was torture, yet a similar percent considered it acceptable. Mankind does not seemed to advanced since the dark ages. All of this convinces me that this whole business could end up as a big pile umbala . I am sure the red necks would say something like, “ Keep you nose out of our business buster”, trouble is, with being dragged into two immoral wars by the US, having a trade deal, and an alliance, and so on, it is of interest to us untouchables. Mike Registered 5. 09-03-2008 07:27 6. 09-03-2008 20:50 One final word? "Let us not then speak ill of our generation, it is not any unhappier than its predecessors. Let us not speak well of it either. Let us not speak of it at all." Samue Beckett - Waiting for Godot Registered 7. 09-03-2008 20:53 8. 10-03-2008 13:58 Conspiresy There is no conspiracy, this is always the typical attack to try to discedit the opposer from the typical right wing, which is what the democratic party really is. Its time people realize, the problems we face will not be solved by those who made them. The democratic party is as guilty for the creation of the current mess of the free trade induced by Clinton, which helped the New World Order objectives, and teh genocides they continue to perpetuate in strategic world resource rich areas. Sorry Bob, you like I, live in the Show Me State centered in the red neck part of the US, your self in a very red neck area of the state. After working for the democratic party for the last 20 years, I like so many others have finally seen the light. The fact is we live in a so called free democracy, (None are so enslaved as those who think they are free.) Obama is no MLK nor is he JFK. The closest he comes to these great men is he uses the word ("CHANGE") with empty free fall and frequently. I guess Bob is a prime example if you hear something frequently enough you believe it. Obama plans to escalate troops 35,000 more to Afghanistan. People need to realize who and how extensive the Military Industrial Complex is. It is more that just our fighting soldiers. Over 700 bases scattered through out the world, more than there are countries in the U.N. It engrosses the majority of our major corporations and the making of military weapons and bombs, which has helped hold capitalisms thriving phoney head since the first world war. Please check out who Diane Fienstien is married to and his affiliation with making of U.S. weaponry. The differance between the democrates and the republicans is like argueing over the differance between coke and pepsi. The true left movement of the democratic party are always disposed of in the second half of the primaries. Maybe Nader was waiting so he could enter at that prime time to soak up all those who felt lost out after teh lose of Kuchinich and Gravel. Ron Dean had the best chance and they neutered him royally with the wonderful so called left wing medias blessings after the Iowa primaries last election. Obama has nothing to stand on but empty words and his skin color and the idea to prove that a man of color just like a woman , can become president of the united states. Takes aback those who are watching with hope democracy in america is alive. Only if you belong in the two political parties run by big business and big media all favoring wall streets interests at home and on the globe. Mean while the genocide continues on and continues to be under our so called free press windows radar. Other than gender and skin color they both are for world domination in the wall street markets and military presence around the world, this is in essence (oil and gas control). Mr Bolt might consider reviewing Chambers Johnson books, The Sorrows of the Empire or Neimisis. In final, I am sorry I bought into the same retoric Mr. Bolt is spewing in the 2000 election, because out of fear I voted for the man and his party with no back bone, Al Gore. I threw away the one freedom I had, out of fear, which was my vote. True freedom, is not always about winning in the moment. History is about change and the minority pushing until they become the majority. The democratic democrats and republican capitalisms world, is coming to an end with global facism evolving. One only needs to quite following and continueing to think and use their retoric inside their box. Think out side the box look at what else is out there that is not based on fear mongureing, which is what your article is based on, FEAR. The demorcratic party and the republican party remind me of a poem by Robert Frost, " a path diverged in the forest, and I, I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the differance", yet the road still ends at the same place, The differance is only in our minds because teh same end result is achieved the destination point. In this case it is to control the world by the US and its NATO allies. Guest 9. 10-03-2008 14:13 Vote Mr. Bolt is right because of the lies adn deciept of the democrtic party, if Nader had not come out I would not have voted and if I had I would give it to McCain rather than those two faced liers of the democratic party, who by the way are the ones who have made it almost impossible for a third party to even get on the tickets. They are always the major contestor to throw out the 3rd party canidates. It is this so called liberal media who threw Kuchinic out of the debates. Guest 10. 17-03-2008 10:00 W00t! i've got six on ya now seb! Now this is starting to pick up! Six posts on nader articles with the same crap paragraph. did you just get bored one night or is this a regular thing for you? Maybe i should start looking where else you've been spamming. Gee and i thought you were just another guy on the internet with something unique to say... oh noes! nader propoganda everywhere!! aaahh!11!!1! Guest 11. 17-03-2008 18:49 W00t! i've got six on ya now seb! Its really sad how people will squirm to hang on to the believe of the democratic party as a left option. Ther is a debate that people should have with themselfs. Democracy is not capitalism, and your kooshi existance is probably do to the exploitation of capitalists to over throw other goverments, financially back oopossing parties in other countries to help, even if it means allowing the installation of a dictator. To make a drastic cut in the military industrial complex, ther are only two choices left to vote for and other political differances between these two are great, unlie the the democrates and the republicans. Vote Nader for a real change and maintain and improve the ethnic and minority rights, and better health care system. More eventual war and military industrial expansion vote Obama , Clinton or McCain, these 3 will give the same end results. Obama is just betting the slaughter in Irag will be close to being achieved it can go under the radar. No mention of teh numerous bases and embassey in Bagdad by these three leading contenders? Guest 12. 17-03-2008 18:59 (was?) Nader? I agree he is (was?) an honorable man. If you Children’s Crusaders do anything other than supporting a Democratic Party candidate at this eleventh hour it will be the equivalent of voting for McCain/Bush/Cheney. I suppose you want that. There is little differance ahould they (republicans) it will still be a war and military economy for the nato countrie and the U.S. Where is your proof of Nader was is remark. He has a cleaner record than Obama and Clinton and he is certainly more bright than McCain. There haven't been any indicators of Nader not being an honest man that have hit CNN 24/7 , not yet any way. Guest 13. 17-03-2008 20:49 An Honorable Man No honorable man would jump into the race too late in the game to have any impact on the election other than guaranteeing McCain's presidency. Do you think Nader wants that? If he does he is not an honorable man. Peace, Bob Registered 14. 18-03-2008 12:26 Has more than those current 3 phonies No honorable man? Time element is not listed in Websters Dictionary under the word honorable. He is honorable in that he will change the dialogue in the debates. The one that was snuffed out by the media on Kuchinic and Gravel in the TV debates, tehy made a habit of scirting the left leaning canidates and giving them less question time and finally to ban them from debate as in Las Vegas. Nader has earned himself much honor. He dose not have the blood on his hands that Obama and Hilary do from the Aafghanistan war and Iraq. He is not backed by mega pharmacy and medical backing as Obama is. Or the umteen that back Hilary. Probably as in the last debates the democratic will try to ban him from the debates, like when he ran before. They fear him because he is honorable he has a work ethics record that truely says he workss for the people and not capitalisms evil corporations that are ruining the world for their greed. No Nader has much honor, that many do not wish to be seen, so they will just ban him. Many people do not realize that 3rd party canidates have to go by a differant set of rules to even get in the game, and even after submitting all the requirements, theycan be contested to hold back their campaign. The democratic party is usually always the one to contest signatures and to try tocreate a recount and verification to slow teh 3rd party canidate down. Now that what I would say is not honorable. You see the more a message is herd the harder it is to control the public and narrow the issues down as the media and the major corporations want. As the media have recently said the Iraq war has fallen off the publics screen. No just the questions asked are controled. Just like you won\'t hear Obama talk about closing the military bases down in Iraq, moving some troops home is not shuting down a military presence at the numerous bases in Iraq, or next door in Afghanistan. U.S. military industrial complex needs to be cut back, continuing to rob the rest of the world at the expense of the poor so U.S. corporations can rape other countries at the point of our guns and bombs. Both the democrate and republican parties are responsible. Many of the offensives started during Bush Sr. and Clinton. Clintons Free Trade Agreement may have been nice for our stock markets, but they were disastrous for the people of those countries. You fear Nader it is that simple. Obama and Hiliary wouldn\'t get my vote any way. 3rd party canidates tend to get in late as a rule caused by part of the two party control, to keep them out for as long as they can, should they manage to get in, its much steeper hill for them. Something that needs to change, and Nader would change it if elected. Guest Write Comment
