Obama, FISA, and Parties The FISA debacle finally came crashing down while I was on a plane heading towards San Francisco for a short vacation. I'm still out on the West coast, enjoying taking my mind off politics for a little bit, but I do have a few, interrelated thoughts on the situation and what it means for progressive politics: * This is not entirely unexpected. Obama has always had strong centrist tendencies. FISA is, unfortunately, an issue that doesn't rile a lot of Americans. This was an easy issue to play as a centrist. I'll probably have something more coherent once I get back in town, but for now, what are your thoughts? Can we turn Obama into a true progressive, both in the election and as President? Or should we be thinking beyond an Obama administration to 2016 and beyond? Jason Rosenbaum is a writer and musician currently residing in Washington D.C. You ain't peeing in your pants over a lawsuit are you? I want my rights! I want my rights! These telecoms deserve to go down! And these cowards in Congress protecting the Administration once again is absolutely nuts! Cowards over a lawsuit. I would filibuster this bill forever if I was a US Senator. I would kill this bill myself. Why would Brack Obama vote for these law breaking telecoms? Why? You ain't coward Barack are you? Guest 2. 26-06-2008 14:56 Oh no! This is sooo depressing. The United States, so they tell us, fought a revolution for freedom and democracy over 400 years ago. Today, corporate capital controls both sides of a two-party system, the population is at the mercy of rampant capitalism, which spends $300bn a year on destroying other countries and threatens the very existence of the planet and controls the vast majority of the information sources that control the minds of the masses - and this man thinks Obama is a "step in the right direction"? Stay on holidays mate, Have another Pina Colada, lie in the sun and try not to think too much about politics. You've obviously had a hard day. Ohhhh this is sooo depressing! Registered Write Comment
