On July 5, 2008 about 5,000 citizens of Melbourne - plus some lovely people from the acutely climate change-threatened Pacific Island Nation of Tuvalu – gathered to protest man-made Climate Change in the Melbourne City Square and then marched through the City to make a human sign saying “Climate Emergency!”
My local congressmen seems to think that the biggest issue facing Americans in the coming election will be immigration. Yes, that issue ranks higher than the economy, high gas prices, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and way way higher than the issues those environmental extremists talk about, like global warming.
A recent essay by a rabbi said we need a president "filled with the spirit of God". After I stopped sputtering with incredulous rage, I began wondering if this was a fundamentalist Muslim in disguise, or if he had joined the ranks of the evangelicals and fundamentalist Christians. In his essay he wrings his hands at the despair of ordinary people, and it is worth quoting how he describes American society and what it is suffering:
