The only thing that has changed in Palestine since Bush left here on Friday is the weather. After almost a complete week of rain and freezing temperatures, the sun miraculously came out from hiding as soon as the President left for Dubai…
As far as the occupation, nothing has changed. As far as the hatred demonstrated by right wing settlers living illegally on Palestinian lands, nothing has changed.
There were no great expectations among the Palestinians regarding the Presidential visit, as was Annapolis, it was a given that nothing would change. Bush looked at the situation as was expected, through blind eyes…. not seeing any of the real problems facing the Palestinian people because of the 60 year old occupation of their lands.
Abbas, Olmert and Bush…. something/someone is missing from that picture…. Haniyeh/Hamas… To exclude them (the elected government of Palestine) is to exclude the Palestinian people from the so-called peace talks. Haniyeh is often referred to in the press as the ‘deposed president’…. Deposed by whom? Certainly not by the Palestinian people that elected him.
