Hong Kong: One country-l l/2 system

Even though it looks like it is ‘business as usual in Hong Kong’ these days -- it is not so.

The fact that over 1000 Falun Gong adherents, mostly from Taiwan, were violently turned away at the Hong Kong airport and could not participate in the July lst pro-democracy march speaks volume. When asked why this was happening, the authorities could not come up with anything to say. Hmm! This one country-two systems that everybody is raving about in the world media is a bit questionable. From where I sit, it sure looks like Beijing is calling the shots.

The heavy presence of the People's Liberation Army police force in full operation this weekend in the heart of the City along with treating Falun Gong like a class enemy and a few more things are good indications that something is wrong in Hong Kong.

It is clear that their so-called freedom has been tarnished by the Communist ideology during the last ten years and it doesn't look like it's about to get better anytime soon judging by the patriotic speeches given by Hu Jintao and Donald Tsang this weekend. So let's not get happy too soon!
